spring dressing
transitioning from winter to spring - the essentials and outfit ideas
This week the weather has bounced from over 80 degrees to under 40 degrees and everyday getting dressed feels like a guessing game. I want to move all my smocked dresses to the front of the closet only to push them to the back the next day to grab a thick leather bomber.
Spring and fall are my favorite seasons to get dressed for because the confusing weather makes for creativity when it comes to outfits. I start combining pieces I wouldn’t normally combine and experimenting with my closet. A leather jacket over a summer dress or a flip flop with a pair of jeans.
Below are some pieces I love to wear in the Spring and a styling tip I always keep in mind when getting dressed when the weather is perfectly confusing.
1. the easy black pant
There are a few pieces I’ve added to my closet over the past few years that have completely changed the way I get dressed. At the top of that list is a wide-leg, elastic-waist black pant. I love it so much that I scrambled to find a pair that fits during my second trimester.
Pre-pregnancy these Enza Costa pants were my absolute favorite. I had ordered them one size up once I found out I was pregnant. Unfortunately, they didn’t last me long due to the thighs not being super wide, which was a quality I loved before but doesn’t work in this era of my life.
Now I have been living in the GAP wide leg pants, which I have since ordered in linen as well. They have a wider leg and a hidden drawstring on the inside.
In general, I want my black pant to have a very thin elastic waist band (a thicker one can feel sporty and fussy) and drape down the floor when wearing flats. It is the quickest thing to throw on when you want to be comfortable and chic.
I am always pairing my black pants with a white tank or tee and layering on top. For spring, I reach for an oversized button up, trench coat, or throw a sweater over my shoulders.
